Photos nine and ten - after the fiberglass and a couple of coats of resin have been used on the hull, the whole thing is lightly sanded. At this point, the outer bottom battens, strakes and all other longitudinals are screwed and epoxied to the exterior of the hull. It is wise to fill any voids and then epoxy over these appendages, but don't attempt to put fiberglass cloth over them-it won't stay on once the boat hits the water and will make life miserable for you. You will have to pull it off as it comes loose and then repaint the hull. I learned this the hard way on the last boat I built!
