The next four pictures show the turning of my Zip.

Boat decking
With the help of my friend Wendell I was able to get the decking on the bow complete. I decided to go with teak and holly decking. As you put on the decking the boat starts to transform into a classic right before your eyes.

Boat seats
The boat seats are complete! They will need some final adjustments before they are mounted to the flooring. The seats are actually a section of a 150 year old church pew from the church I attended as I grew up. I cut the church pew down into two seat sections and they refinished nicely. I think if you are out on the water on a Sunday morning it counts as a church service plus you can have communion anytime you bring along a bottle of wine! More updates to follow… the end is in site!

I just completed varnishing the teak and holly top decking with 4 coats of Epifanes clear coat varnish. No sanding between coats is required, I did however use a 320 grit 3M sanding sponge after the 3rd coat to take off a couple rough spots and the final coat turned out awesome! To complete the varnishing project I moved my Zip to a neighborhood garage known as Joe’s Toybox. The Toybox allowed more room, less dust and better lighting. Joe and Jodi’s hospitality are second to none, great work space and a refreshment or two for a parched varnisher… the windshield is now secure and you can see the vintage horn and bow light are installed as well. Wow! Soon the Zip will be in the water on its maiden voyage!
