June 21, 2006 will be the three year point on this project and it looks like the boat will be finished soon. I stayed close to specs from the sheer line down but since I'm buidling this as an "open" fishing and crabbing boat it is being finished in a different way than originally drafted. Here's the boat as it sits as of today:

Bo-Jest

Picture 1 shows the modified interior with an emphasis on maximum deck space, it's really amazing just how big the BoJest is when it's left open from sheer to sheer.

Picture 2 gives an idea of how I'm capping the sheer; it's being laminated in two 1/2" increments so it will be very strong before the risers are installed for the bulwark. The sheer caps anchor both into the sheer and the inner carling batten so as to stiffen the sheer.

Picture 3 gives an idea of how much deck room has been realized in this boat. The stained birch panels aft of frame 3 are visible as is the transom cap as it's being laminated in. The transom cap is also made of two 1/2" laminated sections, the aft corners being overlapped with the sheer caps to increase the joint strength.

Picture 4 is an overhead shot from the shop loft. The two tone interior theme is intended to accent the flared sheerline of the BoJest and seen from varying angles, it seems to do the job.

I will post more as I near completion.
