Building the Lily Pad Sea's Candy
by Doug Wolven and the Frogs
January 29, '03
We have made a lot of progress with our
Bo-Jest. I am just finishing adding the bottom. Frogville kids made the
battens just before Christmas break. Since these 20 second and
third-graders did not do the frames, I have given them the opportunity to
build a kayak in the classroom while they wait for me to glass, paint and
turn the boat. Then we will proceed with more of what they can do. We
decided to change the name of the boat to "Sea's Candy".
Cool, huh? Sailor is really the boy helped us come up with this name. You
will notice that as you look at the pictures of my class under MISC, that
they all have cyber-names (to protect the innocent). The Kayak is sixteen
feet long and made from frames from an old Folboat?? I have had the
frames for about 12 years. We will launch this in June at a big beach
party in Alamitos Bay. We also hope to have the deck on Sea's Candy
by then.
