Shop Talk: Vacuum Bagged Mahogany Transom
Ken Schott
After the staples are all pulled, begin the finish
with a power or hand planer. Finish up with regular sanding. I can see that one
could do this process on a whole sheet of plywood, bookmark the grain pattern,
and have no fasteners in the final piece. Your staples/fasteners could be in
the scrap side of the work. With the mahogany laminate on the BB side of the
ply, I left the AA side showing to the inside of the hull. Basically, I
laminated over the plugged side of the ply, and am showing the good side of the
ply to the bilge.
