: At my local lumber yard they do not sale Oak, Mahogany, or spruce. Can I use Pine for the frameing in the TNT, are should I order the frameing kit from Glen-L? I will be encapsulating the whole frame, and plywood, and fiberglassing the bottom, sides, and transom. Thank you for any information that you can give me.
Southern Longleaf Yellow Pine is structural, and does not rot fast. The guys that are telling you that pine is no good may need to investigate the properties and written materiel on yellow pine.
White pine is another story, stay away from that.
Southern yellow pine is recognised as a good replacement for oak, mahogany or fir.
I am in the south and good yellow pine is equal the cost of oak, so if by chance you are on the west coast, then it may cost more than oak.
Many hardwood floors are made of yellow pine, and you will never see one worn out.
