: What are the disadvantages of using plexiglass for the windshield in a sunny saltwater application, and what would be the best sealant to use to seal it to a poli-urethane paint.

The only 2 dissadvantages I've seen is that it scratches real easy and after extended periods in DIRECT sunlight it will "craze". Crazing is when small cracks appear within the plastic to where it looks like it's shattered, but only visible at certain angles. As far as sealant, I'd use a good marine silicon (clear if available), it will stick to anything if the surface is clean, dry, and oil-free.
For the trouble of installing winshields, I go to the extra expence of glass. Well worth the investment unless the place where it's installed is going to flex quite a bit (like in a sailboat cabin top). Usually the cost is not much more than plexi. I belive the cost difference on my last project was 35.00 for a 2 piece windshield for a runabout. And this was cut to fit a curved deck!
