: I have an '87 Supra Competition ski boat with a rotting floor, maybe stringer rot as well. Estimates near $5,000.00 to have them both replaced and new carpet.
: Questions:
: Has anyone done this on this boat?
: Know of any good DIY books?
: Repair shops in So. Cal?
I have replaced a few floors, although not this particular model. $5000.00 you say, hmm, are you in L.A.? (pity such a nice boat had polyester instead of epoxy on the floor chances are you would have these problems now) the process is as follows:
1. Remove carpet and anything else to expose the full floor.
2. Make a pattern from heavy paper or such by traceing the edges or taking half breadths from the centerline.
3. Cut out floor around the edges being careful not to cut into the hull.
4. Cut a new floor from pattern.(this may require scarfing plywood sheets)
5. Take dimensions of stringers before removing them, fabricate new to dimensions.
6. Clean bonding areas of old remnants and lightly abrade.
7. Instal new stringers with thickend exopy per manufacturer's recommendations.
8. Filet and glass stringers.
9. Glass underside of new floor then instal.
10. Fill and tape floor edges then glass whole floor.
11. Replace carpet.
If you are in the L.A. area I may be interested in submitting a quote for this job.
