On several Australian boat-building sites - I've seen mention of some kine of "additive" which the Aussie builders add to their Epoxy - to help with "absorbtion" and to help "rot proof" their wood boat items. I think it must be a commercial product over there?

: I also read the section about plastic resin glue and gallic acid reaction. Plastic resin glue is NOT the same as epoxy. You are not likely to find much plastic resin glue about, although it's an excellent and economical glue where tight joints are the rule... it's just not stocked much anymore with other more "modern" glues taking the forefront of merchandising.
: : Looking for any input for frame material for a Malahini. I live in the Norhteast where white oak is abundant at considerable savings over imported mahogany.
: : The statement from Glen L on lumber selection has me concerned, "Because of the gallic acid in white oak, it reacts with plastic resin glue when submerged in salt water, and therefore this glue should not be used with white oak under these conditions."
: : Does this refer to epoxy? I will be operating in salt water.
Thanks
