I've done a little research. The reason they drove off the front was to lower the over-all height of the engine to fit under the floor boards of the cruiser. With the flywheel forward the big end of the engine was to the front of the boat allowing for the rear of the engine to sit lower in the bildge. Using a 15 deg. prop shaft angle this would allow the floors to be flush. I abondoned this engine and opted for a late model 350 Chevrolet/Performance Marine engine driving off the flywheel side. I hope this will allow enough clearance under the deck. Anyone need a complete front drive set up to fit an early small block Chevy?
