when a propeller rotates in one direction, the boat tends to torque in the opposite direction. Hence on a traditional boat with the helm on the starboard side you want a right hand engine (clockwise propeller rotation viewed from the stern). We just built an inboard runabout and used a left hand engine with a starboard helm and it works beautifully. so use any engine you want. BTW, I have a chevy 327 block-based crusader that is right hand. It needs a rebuild but ran before I pirated it for peripheral parts. Come and get it Cheap in CT if you want it.Regards, Mitchell
