Look at the pump, there should be a arrow cast into the pump cover. The input spline shaft turns the pump. The pump cover can be installed one of two ways and that changes the input rotation. With the arrow at the top of the unit, it points to the direction of rotation. This is the input rotation for the pump; a 1:1 tranny the output is the same as input as is most other ratios.
The 1.91:1 reduction gear unit has output opposite of input. They use Dexron transmission fluid. You can use 30w if you turn the unit slow speed like a slow speed diesel application.
