: I am currently building a 19' cabin cruiser and planning to use an automotive engine - nissan SR20 coupled to a jet pump.

: Anybody knows what are the critical parts to be marinized?

The Banca boats I saw over there usually had "hot" exhaust, which is a "dry stack". That makes for a lot of heat in the bilge and can be a fire hazard, but that never stopped a Banca boat from operation. The larger Bancas had a 4 cylinder diesel like a Jeepney engine. I think it was a Isuzu was the popular one. Look at the larger Bancas and see how they went about it, I doubt there is too much rocket science involved to do it the Pinoy way.
The little Bancas used a Briggs/Stratton coupled to a rubber disc like a auto steering shaft coupling, to turn the prop shaft. They made their own props in this case. There was no stuffing box, just a shaft running inside a long tube, fill the long tube with grease, and it worked.
The little Bancas had removeable engines so that they didnt get stolen sitting on the beach, just unbolt it and go home. The rubber disc was in effect a flex coupling.
