I have a runabout made with Okoume plywood and am about to start finishing it with ZSpar Captains varnish. After testing on a scrap, this is going to be a pretty pale color finish, and I would prefer a deeper mahogany color. Can I apply a stain first (like a minwax stain), and still coat with the ZSpar varnish? Just not sure of any incompatabilities or long term effects of this. Thanks for any advice.
