In a similar thread on a board I cannot rmember one point was made that the starter and other electrical components had to be of a marine grade because a loss spark could easily start a fire on boat where the engine is enclosed. So make sure you think about engine fumes and have a blower. Check the WoodenBoat mag website/ forum- there was an article in a back issue you could probably still order about marinizing a subaru- it would have a lot of info that would be helpfull.
