: I noticed the Mist Miss has a frame kit offered. I am sure this will save some time, but is it worth the purchase price? By the way this will be my first boat build.
The overall cost of materials will be about the same if not a bit more. Depending on what you make them out of.
Also take into account your woodworking skills, tools, and time.
I have no set date to get my boat done, I have(had) no woodworking skills, but I wanted to learn so I chose to make my own frames. I also have a lot of patience and don't get frustrated at having to fix mistakes.
I invested in about $800 (so far) in tools, and $75 in wood to make templates for the frames and so far has worked out well.
If you want to get a fast start on your boat, I would recomend getting the frame kit.
Take a look at Doug Hodders entry for the Malhini in the photo section about the frame kit. He built the Zip previous to that (also in the photo section).
