Hi Mark... I haven't used them as a temp trial, but anything is worth a try. I do use a soft wood that I tune with a small finger plane. Never had to plane one completely off but with a soft type wood I bet it would be very easy. Also when you have the wedges shaped and sized the way you want add some epoxy for durability. If they get wiped off by some foreign body the soft wood goes before the bottom. We also have used aluminum wedges on the skegs of outboards and I.O's to correct the torque from running motors high on the transom with huge pitched props.
: The wedge idea sounds good. I would apply them to the portions that were added to the hull on each side of the motor.
: Is it possible to make up the wedges and then apply them to the hull with double stick tape (e.g. fiberglass carpet tape)? I suppose the leading edge would need some cloth or metal tape (duct tape) to prevent water pressure from peeling the wedge off. Teh rear of the wedge would need to be flush with the rear of the hull (and crisp).
: Are there any pitfalls to the more temporary approach?
