The Renegade is a nice outboard, but when I think of a competition ski boat, I think of an inboard. For a beatiful Renegade, see Dominik Papa's site http://www.dominik-boot.de/ and pictures on the photo board.
Think of how many people you want to carry, how much ballast (whether Fat Sacks or People) and whether you will do a pylon or tower. Finally consider how much engine can you afford. This is easily the single biggest cost of the boat.
For a competition style inboard, you may want to consider the Mist Miss. My Riviera is a geat ski / wakeboard boat. When we want a big wake we move 2 big guys to the rear cockpit and let 20-30 gallons of water (160-240 lbs) of water in the bottom/ bilge. (If you ever want to ask a difficult question, try diplomatically asking the ladies on board to go to the back "for a better view" a.k.a. "bigger wake"! )
We can tune the wake for slalom skiers to big air for boarders. The next step is the pylon for big air.
