But jets have other advantages, such as safety, less damage prone, and (my experience) more maneuverable. The problem with OB's is you'd like the boat to "pivot" about a point near the midpoint of the wetted area, when you steer. But the lower unit doesn't permit that. With a jet, you can have a fin at the ideal location and it'll turn on a dime!
Disadvantage is more expensive hardware.
