A bandsaw is a great help in cutting out the frame members.
Try for a 14" unit. Get a 1/2 skip tooth blade. The frame pieces can be doubled up with double stick carpet tape.
I built mine with an old 12", but the 14" units are the "sweet spot" in the market - the majority of units sold.
As far as cutting plywood, most band-saws do not have enough throat clearance (the 14" measurement). As a result, a jig saw, cricular saw and table saw are better for that portion of the work.
