I am building one at this moment, and have the same question. But a little web surfing seems to indicate most people use a 15HP, and many use electric start wit no problems. Locally, (So. CA), I have to use a 4-stroke if I want to buy a new motor. This adds weight. On the otherhand, it seems new 9.9HP and 15HP motors weigh the same, so the bigger should be the better.
