: : : Has anyone had a problem with carpenter ants on their boat. I built a Sneak Box and the last two years during storage ants have nested in the boat. The epoxy/fiberglass has protected the
: : : boat so far, but I wonder if they are getting past it. Thanks !

: : If the ants are in it, then they are in the wood somewhere and you likely have a problem. Ants love the glue in plywood and will hollow out large areas as nests over time, that you will not see fromt he outside. In sandy-soil Maine we have lots of carpenter ant problems. I have had them eat large areas of industrially-treated marine plywood covered with fgls & gelcoat, well off the ground, in FRP-type shipping containers used as buildings, adn they do not take long to devour large amounts of wood. Ants don't just hang around with no reason. Strongly suggest you carefully observe them, and also take a test hammer to all plywood areas. If you rap much on a hidden nest, they will start boiling out like a horror movie. I have also had many precious bft of dry, clear oak, stacked well above-ground and covered, destroyed by ants.

: Thanks Frank, I gassed them the day I found the problem I hope its not too late.

Thanks for your comments. So far most ants dead, looked again this week and found a few more live ones. I believe im killed the Queen, large ant with stripes unlike all others
She is dead. No apparent structural problems, sounds like i will need to be checking in this regularly.
