: I am seriously considering building the Vee Gull and would like to hear from anyone who is using one of these boats. My questions are concerning the handling of the finished boat, not in building the boat.
: Thank you in advance.
Me and my father rebuilt my grandfathers Vee gull 20 and it handles very well in the Muskoka's. We have had it out in Lake Simcoe (North of Toronto) on a pretty rough day (2-3ft waves) and we were fine, we had to back off the throttle a few times when larger waves came by but overall it is a pretty stable boat. My grandfather built it with a cabin and this added a lot of weight for the 120 horsepower that he put in it. When me and my father rebuilt it we made it a centre console similar to the original design. This greatly reduced the overall weight and with the 120 hp it will do about 35-40 mph easy (plywood version ofcourse). It is a nice and wide boat offers a lot of room on deck. Anyway if you have any other questions email me back at mrculham@flash.lakeheadu.ca or call my father at 905-729-3786 (I would give you his e-mail but he doesn't know how to work it very well, but I could direct any questions to him if you wanted). He lives outside of Beeton, Ontario, Canada.
