If you start with wood and don't follow through
you can at least have some material to make bookshelves
like a friend of mine.
I used wood for my first boat because of my woodworking
experience and particulary the cost factor. More
to the point though, in my opinion, is to keep the
first one small whatever the material you choose.
Our first boat was 12'. Lots of fun both
building and sailing her.
