Latex paint is not just a cheap way out, it has the same characteristics as the epoxy paint. I haven't painted my house in years and the latex paint is holding up fine, so keeping a boat in the water will be fine with latex paint. Many well known builders use it and swear by its properties, so it comes down to what you prefer.
