Trailable boat paint-. In web letter 17 under e-mails a Ray Macke writes a very interesting response concerning bottom paint for a trailable boat. In my research i found out exactly the same information. He ended up using epoxy paint. Not to start a argument, but i am a contractor in the construction business, and in my (humble opinion) i think house paint will last from 4 to 7 years approximately depending on how the boat is used and stored. Also think that if the boat is left in the water for about a week(maybe only a few days) you will find the paint becoming very soft and you will be able to scratch it off with your finger nails, and this is the point at which it will start allowing water absorption. The first time you repaint will be no problem, just light sanding, but the second time which might be in only 10 years you may have to strip it down to bare wood. Further down the message board i suggested a epoxy paint for $60. a gallon availble in over 1,000 colors which for the outside and bottom of a boat i am sure would be a much cheaper route in the long run. Marine paint is exspensive for a reason. But then again we all have our opinions and wouldn't it be a dull world if we all had the same size, shape and color boats, cars, and houses and wore light grey uniforms.
