Yes, BS6566 Meranti is a very good grade of marine ply. Not as good as BS1088, but nowhere near the cost either. Marine fir is good too, even without any ratings, and it is lighter than the meranti. The meranti is smoother and will finish easier and smoother, requiring less filling work. It is, without a doubt, better than what is required on almost any boat, unless weight is a question. It's only about 4 or 5 lbs. heavier a sheet than fir for the 1/4".
