: I'd like to put a pearl paint job on my Rampage. Is there a special method for doing this ? or does anyone know I can get pearl colored paint ?

Good idea, looks way cool! there are different kinds of pearl. Are you good at spraying paint? I mean as far as getting even and consistent coverage? this is what is required for a successful pearl job, real pearl is not for beginers. True pearl is a powder paint additive that used to be made from fish scales. Today they are mostly made from plastics like mylar or polyester. There are factory "peals", perhaps you have seen them on newer cars. To me, these lack luster. They don't dramatically change colors when viewed from different angles the way a true pearl does. Pearls and candy coats are the hardest to apply and are even harder to repair. I suggest you consider these drawbacks before painting your boat, especially a large area. Ok to the point: you can buy "pearl" paint already mixed for factory paint repairs but the colors are limited to what the manufacturer used. Custom pearls, which is probably what you are looking for, are custom mixed by the user. The basic process is to apply a uniform basecoat over the primer, usualy white (depending on the desired finish color), followed by a transparent color, then clear coated. The color, clear, or both have the pearl added to them and the clear may be tinted as well. Since the basecoat is visible through the color and clear, it is imparative that the color be applied the same thickness overall. This is what makes initial and repair coating difficult. The factory type pearls are much more forgiving as they are designed for consumer service, but, they don't have the same razzle dazzle as custom pearls. Many paint cpmpanies offer pearl additives, but by far the king is House of Kolor (no typo). If money is no object for you then go for it! (pearls are very expensive). Visit your local automotive paint store, the better ones sell house of Kolor and have the sample book. It is an inspiring thing to see.
