I don't know why everyone is always so scared of wiring/electricity!! The shocks have never hurt me much personally! Seriously, even people I know who I consider extremely practical and handy are scared of working with wires. Of course, I'm an electrical engineer, so I guess I'm "different".
I would almost do what you ask myself, but I probably have too many projects going on to get involved in another. If you want to send me your stuff, I'd give you some general rules of thumb type guidelines to use as a practical sanity check. Use my email "grnyx____" with the domain being "aol.com"
