I beleive the Glen-L catalog lists 50 h.p. as the maximum horsepower the boat was designed for, and I would be EXTREMELY wary of exceeding that (my Console Skiff has a 40 h.p. Mercury, and does everything I need her to do very well, by the way). At the very least, I would contact Glen-L and ask them. I was glad to see you use the term "safe horsepower" in your question; we want to build safe boats as well as fast ones. Perhaps one reason amateur boatbuilders sometimes have trouble finding insurance is that we can have the tendency to sacrifice safety for "performance".
