I asked if you'd looked at photos because I assumed you hadn't had the opportunity to see the real thing "in the flesh", otherwise you might not be questioning if it looked good enough in the first place.
I've seen quite a few boats finished using this method, including a Canadian style strip planked canoe built by one of the guys I work with. I've seen that boat very close up, and if I didn't know it was glassed I'd never guess it, apart from the fact that the finish is just so much better than I've ever seen on a varnished boat!
It has an incredibly deep shine, like you see on show cars, and is far tougher than any varnished wood finish could ever be.
I suppose you could argue that it looks unrealistic, but I don't think you could ever say that it looks bad.
