The question is not whether the Sweet Caroline will float, it will. The question is, what else is in the boat that has to be supported. As JimM said, flotation only has value if the hull fills with water. Then you might want enough flotation to support non-floatables, such as the motor. To be effective, the flotation should be distributed so that the hull will float level. In the case of the motor, the flotation should be located aft. An airtight or foam-filled compartment at the bow is probably all that is needed there.
