For a brief overview you might go to my simple site and look over the steering arrangement on the race boat. Then feel free to send me an email to ask specific questions. Shown is a two cable steering setup. Modern steering uses only a single stiff cable with a rack/pinion like arrangement at the steering wheel and at the motor, a shaft that couples to the engine tilt tube and attaches to the engine to cause it to turn left and right.
