I'm no expert, but I'd be leery of ply for frames. MAYBE if you used high-quality plywood that you can find at specialty yards, but not the crap we see here in the States at Lowes or Home Depot. The good stuff has much thinner plies, maybe 9 plies in 1/2" thickness, and the veneers are good stuff (whatever species you want) inside and out. No idea if there are such suppliers in the Isles, and shipping would be horrendous from a distance.
