The plywood construction would be by far easier and faster than cold moulded. Per your above post, there are several guys that have posted that the frame kits are worth it. I am still biulding my frames/transom , it does take time to build them. With the kit, you start with the setup fixture and go from there, that is a big step. A design developed for ply planking along with a frame kit, makes a lot of sense for a guy new at woodworking.
My own suggestion would be get the Mist Miss frame kit, and on that project, experiment with laminating your own Mahogany transom and decks,(laminate your own veneer over the ply) it will have that look you and I both like, the Gentleman's Runabout.
