One more thing, Brenner: As long as you are rowing, and depending on the length of your vessel, there may be NO requirements for lights at all, although the instructions seem to advise having a flashlight or lantern handy to signal your presence to other boats.

: I have been looking through all the regulations I can find on the web. I have not seen any reference to a "continuous" light in any of them.

: I understand that there are dangerous people that take to the water in boats. I'm not too concerned about confusing them - as long as I can get their attention before they drive over me.

: Most of my rowing will probably be done in water that is not navigable for big power boats. I do want to make my craft safe - that is why I'm adding the extra expense of lighting.
