You can make a fiberglass hull using one of the one-off methods. See the Glen-L site Boatbuilding Methods. This method will not "keep it smooth". You will need to fair the surface with fillers. The only way to achieve the finish you are looking for, without fairing, is by using a female mold. This is not a practical method of building a small number of boats. Note: From a performance standpoint, plywood will be lighter.
