Don't overlook the possibility that an aquaintance may have what you need. Put out the word amongst family and friends that you are building a boat and are looking for a running or nearly running marine motor. I've found that most people think that building a boat is such a novel thing that people are eager to spread the word and/or do some poking around for you. Its also surprising what people have kicking around that they are willing to part with cheap. I have let people around me know about my project and hinted at things I could use. Since then two people have given me reclaimed mahogany (in one case, over 200 bdft of 10/4 stock) and a co-worker has offered me his '59 Evinrude Lark 35hp outboard cheap.
