It is very easy to change rotation of an engine. With a Chev all you need is a gear drive and a special cam. But you will need a starter to get things going the opposite direction. All of these parts are very common and easy to get. A trans could be an alternative but may not be as cost efective. There are tons of reverse rotation motors out there that have run for many many years. So don't worry about dependability.
