This particular jon boat was an airboat at one time... it had a corvair engine. It had plenty of freeboard with that engine and was surprisingly stable even though it was a direct drive setup. Through a character fault of my father, he sold the engine and prop before I got it. Now that I want to turn it back into an airboat, I can't find a corvair engine or a prop. I've done the weight distribution math and it will float. Mounting the engines in the bottom of the boat will (hopefully) give me a nice low center of balance and make it more stable than it was before. And yes, I want to make this thing fly. The river that I use this boat on has some long stretches of deceptively shallow sandbars, and I'm sick of going through 2 props a season on the 18hp Johnson that's on it now.
