Kjetil -

Back some years ago, many of the 70's sailboats, and I guess power boats too - had trouble with "deck Beams" rotting out and causing all sorts of problems. A designer told me that was because they used polyester resin (not Epoxy), and polyester resin - lets moisture GET IN!!!

I'm no plywood expert, but I can't believe one would get much "moisture" trapped inside plywood, especially new plywood one uses to build a boat! And if you coated both sides well with Epoxy resin, as they strongly suggest, how would moisture stay inside or get inside and do damage? Your the first person I ever heard describe such a problem?

Fred

: Thanks Jim!

: The boat is still under construction in a heated garage. So I am not concerned about encasulating any moisture. But I have a very bad experience with a 25' glassfibre cruiser that every deck beam (the deck is reinforced with plywood) had rotted completely. This was probably a result form years of a very small leakage. I didn't notice until the pullers got loose.

: Do you know what the C-C where treated with inside? If there is no really benefit of using epoxy I would probably use som "oil stuff" that breathe.
