Steve:

Listen to Mark. I used his site extensively to build my Squirt even though his project is 20 times as tough.

As for the natural look, I stained the hull above the waterline with two coats of Victorian Mahogany (very dark). The waterline is white (marine tape from West Marine) and the bottom is green. You can see the boat under Customer Photos (Art, Bandon) or at www.cnwmr.com. The decking is cedar as are the finishing boards.

Feel free to contact me if there's anything I can help you with.

Good luck.

: Contemplating building a squirt. Want it too look like a wooden boat. Does marine grade plywood have a "handsome" grain? And would I saturate with CPES, then coat it with "clear" epoxy, then varnish/Stain? Maybe I have to buy a book on finishing/protecting a wooden boat. Thanks. (Then again I am getting pretty good at this paint gig)
