Hi Steve....If you are going to play around with a 3pt hydro you should have a turn fin for each sponson transome to turn both directions. A rear fin is not needed. Also weight placement front to rear will help greatly with the turning ability. On the other hand when you are ready to race only one turn fin is needed on the left side sponson transome also when racing the engine is positioned quite high on the transome with a streamlined lower unit (Quickie). Props are also very important with performance, 2blade props have different characteristics than 3blade. Most of all hydros are a very fast style of boat and a ton of fun.

: Good day.
: i am doing some research on building a hydroplane, along the lines of the Super Spartan. I have noticed that Some folks place a fin at the rear, to the port of the motor, or on the inside of the Port Sponson. Is there a theory behind this? Is it necessary?
: thanks.
: Steve
