You can use clear Douglas-fir to replace Sitka Spruce. It is a bit heavier than Spruce, but it is also stronger. If you use a hollow spar, there is not a lot of difference in weight.

: I can't find sitka spruce in the region were I live. What other wood is suitable for building a spar? I'm building the Glen-L 25.
