Wonder what material screws you're using? Glen L's Galv Steel worked great a few years ago. But they then, were slotted - which I wouldn't use again. Not a single one broke, when I built the Roustabout.

If I were to start my "next boat" - this time around I'd use SS wood screws, with square-drive heads. And also the better grade of SS. You should NEVER have to drill out a broken screw! Perhaps you are not pre-drilling them with correct countersink set?

Fred .... have fun!

: I have been attempting to dry fit boat parts together by clamping the parts, predrilling the holes and then screwing the screws into th chines and side pieces of a boat.
: I seam to be destroying more screw heads than it is worth. I cannot get the screws to back out with a driver and bit and have had to resort to drilling out some of the screws.
: Should I use screws other than the galvanized screws listed on this site, or are there some type of sacrificial screws I could use. At $3.50 per 144 screws I don't want to waste any.

: Thanks
