I agree with Steve. If you are trying to get a boat as cheaply and quickly as possible, then you'd probably be happier in the long run if you buy a used boat and fix it up. If you aren't going to enjoy the process of building a boat as an end in itself (and not just as a way to get a boat) then there is a very good likelihood that you will never finish your project.
No one seems to talk about it much, but I'd bet that a very large percentage of boat building projects never get finished.
