IAN,

I am a believer in encapsulating wood. The only rot problems I have had was when we missed an area with epoxy or did not seal properly when drilling into the the protective layer.

Kevlar ? Check Chapter 13 in "How to fiberglass boats" by Ken Hankinson.

The pitfalls which Jim has discussed have merit and he has obviously done more research than I. It has been my experience that epoxy resin will crack but that is usually the response when it is applied too liberally to an area. I have not experienced any rot problems on any of our three Glen-L designed boats as a result of what could be determined as microscratches. Our lack of rot problems are most likely due to that we never let water stand in the hull for any extended lenght of time.

If "CPES" will allow a resin to be applied to it ? Then I do not see how it can be a bad thing.

But hey, it's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Regards,

John E. Talley
