A wood boat is easier to work with, it can be made to last forever if you choose to fiberglass it. I'm on my second boat now, a 10' fishing boat. I am making the frames and transom from white oak and the sides and bottom will be plywood. After fiberglassing the outside it will be very durable. Good Luck.
