Would the advice of another beginner be of use to you? I'm just beginning my first project too, and have almost no experience with either wood or epoxy. The boat I really thought that I wanted to build was the Celerity, but after purchasing and studying the plans, I felt I might be getting in a little over my head for my first time out. Wisely (I think), I downgraded my expectations and am committed to building a Console Skiff (engine has been purchased, frame kit and plywood are ordered). We'll use our boat primarily as a "runabout", maybe doing a little fishing and ski/tube towing from time to time. Despite my inexperience, I have a great deal of confidence in the integrity of Glen-L designs and the Glen-L company. You might consider the Console Skiff, or it's "big sister," the Cabin Skiff.
