The speeds listed are approximate based on the listed displacement and will not be correct if the weight is increased. Speeds noted also assume that the propeller and reduction are matched to the engine being used. Speeds are noted in knots; to convert to MPH, divide by .87. All horsepower listings refer to shaft horsepower (SHP) S.A.E. ratings. The horsepower rating for diesel engines is the CONSTANT rating, not the intermittent one. If a gasoline motor is rated as BHP, multiply by .70 to estimate the SHP. Engine ratings given in D.I.N. will be about 8 percent less than S.A.E.; KW ratings will be about 75% of S.A.E. The chart will be the same for outboard motors, gasoline or diesel engines. If twin motors are used, the speeds apply to the total SHP of the engines used.
